Your Data is Yours

ShelfPulse is designed with privacy in mind. We do not collect, store, or have access to your Audiobookshelf server credentials, listening data, or personal audiobook information. All data remains between your device and your Audiobookshelf server.

This Privacy Policy describes how ShelfPulse ("we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use our mobile application. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our practices.

1. Information We Do NOT Collect

ShelfPulse is designed to prioritize your privacy. We do not collect, store, or have access to:

  • Your Audiobookshelf server URL, credentials, or API tokens
  • Your listening history or audiobook data
  • Information about books in your library
  • User statistics or analytics from your server
  • Any personal information from your Audiobookshelf account

2. How the App Works

ShelfPulse connects directly from your iOS device to your Audiobookshelf server:

  • Direct Connection: All data requests go directly from your device to your Audiobookshelf server
  • Local Storage: Your server credentials and cached data are stored locally on your device
  • No Intermediary Servers: We do not operate any servers that process or store your Audiobookshelf data
  • iCloud Sync: If you enable iCloud Keychain, your server credentials may be securely synchronized across your Apple devices using Apple's CloudKit infrastructure

3. Information Processed Locally

The following information is processed and stored locally on your device:

  • Audiobookshelf server connection details (URL, username, password/API token)
  • Cached statistics and analytics data from your server
  • App preferences and settings (theme selection, display options)
  • Widget configuration and cached widget data

4. Apple Services

ShelfPulse uses certain Apple services that may collect limited information:

  • iCloud Keychain: If enabled, securely stores your server credentials using Apple's encrypted keychain
  • App Store: Processes subscription and purchase information through Apple's payment systems
  • CloudKit: May be used to sync app preferences across your devices if you enable iCloud sync

These services are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, available at https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/.

5. Analytics and Crash Reporting

We may collect anonymized technical information to improve the app:

  • Anonymous crash reports (if you opt in to share diagnostics with Apple)
  • Basic usage statistics (e.g., which features are used, but not what data you view)
  • Device type and iOS version for compatibility purposes

This information cannot be used to identify you personally and does not include any content from your Audiobookshelf server.

6. Third-Party Audiobookshelf Servers

ShelfPulse connects to third-party Audiobookshelf servers that you configure. We have no control over these servers and are not responsible for:

  • Their privacy practices or data handling
  • The security of data transmitted to or from these servers
  • How they store or process your information

Please review the privacy practices of your Audiobookshelf server administrator or hosting provider.

7. Data Security

We implement security measures to protect your information:

  • Server credentials are stored using iOS Keychain, which provides encrypted storage
  • All communication with Audiobookshelf servers can use HTTPS encryption
  • No data is transmitted to our servers or third parties
  • App data is protected by your device's passcode and biometric security

8. Your Choices and Controls

You have full control over your data:

  • Delete Account Data: Remove your server connection from the app at any time to delete all stored credentials and cached data
  • iCloud Sync: Control whether your credentials are synced via iCloud in your device settings
  • Cache Management: Clear cached data through the app's settings
  • Analytics: Control diagnostic data sharing through iOS Settings > Privacy > Analytics & Improvements

9. Children's Privacy

ShelfPulse is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, please contact us, and we will help ensure any data is removed.

10. International Users

ShelfPulse can be used worldwide. Since all data remains on your device and your Audiobookshelf server, there is no international data transfer performed by us. However, if you use Apple services like iCloud, your data may be processed according to Apple's privacy practices.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:

  • Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
  • Providing an in-app notification for material changes
  • Posting the new Privacy Policy on our website

Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.

12. Legal Requirements

While we do not collect or store your data, we may be required to provide information to authorities if:

  • Required by law or legal process
  • Necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of ShelfPulse or others
  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets

Since we do not have access to your Audiobookshelf data, any such requests would be limited to basic app usage information.

13. California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you have certain rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). However, since ShelfPulse does not collect or sell personal information, most CCPA obligations do not apply to our app. You have the right to request information about any data we may have collected.

14. European Users (GDPR)

For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), we comply with GDPR principles:

  • We process minimal data necessary for the app to function
  • All data processing occurs locally on your device
  • You have full control to access, modify, or delete your data
  • We do not transfer your data to third parties
